Calling all Pipers

Calling all Pipers:

The 2013 Piper Reunion is shaping up to be one for the record books!

On Friday, June 28th don't miss a once in a lifetime tour of Piper Jaffray operations downtown. All in attendance will have lunch and listen to a review of Piper Jaffray's history with the current and a former CEO. Afterward there will be a variety of activities that folks can choose to do in Minneapolis.

Saturday, June 29th there will be a historic trip to Garden City, where it all began. Local media has expressed an interest in covering our visit as descendents of the "Remarkable Men of Garden City" (Piper's, Warners and Washburns) returning on a family pilgrimage to the home of their forefathers. While in Garden City there will be a tour of a 1900's home with our guides all in period dress. At the same time, there will be an 1860 baseball tournament taking place as well. And, of course, every attempt will be made to find Jefferson Piper's 1850's homestead. That evening we are planning a dinner cruise on Lake Minnetonka.

You don't want to miss sharing in this experience with family you already know and new found relatives.

A block of rooms is reserved at the Sheraton Minneapolis West, 12201 Ridgedale Dr Minnetonka, MN 55305; (952) 593-0000

As for cost...based on 50 adults, it is in the area of $180-$200 each. That includes 5 meals, bus, boat tour.

Right now, we have 4 young adults (John C & John Q kids) and 14 local young kids (included in Friday night's dinner only as most are between the ages of 4-13 and we think should not be included on the boat tour). We can charge a children's rate for the dinner.
We also think that many of the local young parents will not show up for all the activities but if they do, we will have an event charge.
Budgeting for adults right now is as follows:

Thursday: Dinner $35
Friday: Lunch $15, Dinner $25 (kids $10)
Saturday: Bus ride $25 (may be too low), Lunch $15, Boat ride & Dinner $50
Other $25 (donation to Blue Earth, water, name tag, colored t-shirt)

Total: $190

The 2013 Piper Reunion is shaping up!

Here are some updates.

Friday we tour Piper Jaffray operations downtown, have lunch there and review Piper Jaffray's history with the current and former CEO.

We will then have various activites that folks can choose to do in Minneapolis.

Saturday's trip to Garden City is coming together nicely. There could possibly be local media on hand as some of the decendents from the "Remarkable Men of Garden City" (Piper's, Warners and Washburns) return to their forefather's home. We have a tour set of a 1900's home with our host in period dress. There will be an 1860 baseball tournament happening while we are there as well.  Of course we will attempt to find Jefferson Piper's 1850's homestead.

A Tentative Plan for the Piper Family Reunion 2013

Calling All Pipers:

Piper Reunion I was held in March 2011, close to Bill Piper and his family in Santa Rosa, CA. Those who attended had such a wonderful time we hated to leave and have talked about planning another gathering to meet with one another, share stories and common interests and create more great memories.

This year, Tad and Cindy Piper have graciously offered to take the lead for Piper Reunion II, June 27-30, 2013 in Minneapolis, MN. A current draft schedule is as follows:

Thursday, June 27:  Arrivals with a Meet & Greet Dinner at hotel

Friday, June 28:  Area Excursion Options: Minneapolis Institute of Art, Walker Art Center & Sculpture Garden and Dinner gathering in the evening.

Saturday, June 29:  Possible Trip to Garden City and Blue Earth County, Dinner

Sunday, June 30: Departures, Possible Picnic Lunch at the Barn at Woodhill (golf, tennis or swimming)

This is a tentative outline for the reunion. If you have any suggestions please provide them to the blog or contact Cindy Piper at cindypiper46@gmail.com or John Piper at Quervain@Juno.com  Looking forward to seeing record numbers of the Piper clan in Minnesota this June!

Plans are in the works for a Piper Reunion in Minnesota

There are a few in the Piper Family that are beginnning to explore the possibility of a reunion in Minnesota the Summer of 2013. With plenty of family historical sites to see and people to greet, we are also considering inviting our extended STS family for a visit to Garden City. The very small Midwestern town where our Minnesota roots were planted over 150 years ago. It is the place where childhood friendships began that were lifelong and continue today with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

More to come.....
